Relationship with...Myself

In life we're involved in loads of different types of relationships - relationships with parents, friends, teachers, God, pets etc. But who is it that we spend the most time with? Well, its with ourselves! We all talk to ourselves, sing to ourselves, spend time with ourselves, laugh at ourselves, and sometimes big ourselves up in front of the mirror (well...some of us).

But the big question is 'what do u think of u?'

 sponge

You see, we're all a bit like sponges. With a sponge, you put it in some kind of liquid, and whatever the liquid is, it'll soak it up. We all do the same. If people around us think something about us, or someone says something nasty, we just soak it up! If someone thinks we're a geek, we just soak that up, and we believe we're a geek (it certainly happened to me!). If someone thinks we're the greatest thing ever and tells us, we just soak it up and believe it!

The media says a lot of rubbish about what we should be like, what we're worth, and who we are. Girls for example are all expected to be as thin as a rake, and who they are is shown by what they wear and what they buy. And we just soak it up! Guys are supposed to be hard, as tough as nails, and should never show any emotion. Again, we just soak it up.

So...what do u think of u?

Here's the answer - "It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we're living for!" - Eph 1

As we spend time with Jesus, as we get to know him more, as we pray, as we read our Bibles, as we worship, as seek HIM...we get to know ourselves and we find out what we're worth.

Think about it, do you ever come away from praying or worshipping having met with Jesus, and you just feel so good about yourself...you realise your worth something, and you have a right view of yourself, a godly view.

Paul who wrote this verse above was a bit of a sponge! Soaked up everything around him. Whatever anyone thought about him, he'd soak it up and it left him big-headed and a bit of a plonker! Then one day he had a huge experience where he saw a bright light and heard Jesus speak, and then he was changed forever and was able to write these words - it was in Christ that he found out who he was and what he was living for.

So, what do you think of u? What do you soak up? Who are you?

Unfortunately draining out the rubbish we soak up and soaking up the confidence and love that  Jesus gives us isn't instant, its not magic! Its a process that takes years of seeking God, of meeting him daily, and of giving every part of our life to him!

It's like an awesome coffee, it takes ages to brew, but when its ready, its delightful!

It starts today!
